1st Day: Errachidia - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert

The 4-Day Desert Tour from Errachidia to Marrakech commences with a pick-up from your hotel/riad in Errachidia and head toward Merzouga desert. First, a stop will be made at the Ziz Valley, the second longest valley in Morocco to enjoy the panoramic view of the stunning landscapes of thousands of palm trees.

 

Next, continue the way through Aoufous and Erfoud city which is known for its rich fossils including ammonites and trilobites, also, a Festival of Dates takes place every year usually celebrated in October, the event will be packed with activities, including exhibitions, tastings, and the sale of different varieties of dates, also the surrounding desert landscapes of Erfoud have been featured in several movies, including “The Mummy” and “The Prince of Persia.” 

 

Afterward, arrive in the Merzouga desert and start an experience that everyone should do at least once in a lifetime, riding the camels to the heart of the desert, watching a vibrant sunset from one of the highest dunes, and enjoying the tranquility and quietness amidst of the desert.

Then, continue the camel ride to the desert camp where you will be welcomed with Berber Whiskey (tea with mint), a private nomadic tent, savor a delicious Moroccan dinner, join traditional Berber drums, and enjoy the breathtaking atmosphere of the sky full of million bright stars.

2nd Day: Off-road excursion - Nomads - Mines - Palm Grove

Waking up early morning is a must-do to contemplate the vibrant sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we start an off-road journey to explore the most interesting places in Merzouga’s surroundings which is famous for its stunning Erg Chebbi dunes, wild flamingo lake, fossil mines, and Hassi Labied palm trees.

To start, visit the nomadic families who are still living in the middle of the desert, well-known for their warm hospitality to guests or strangers, you will have the chance to learn about the traditional way of life, including customs, crafts, and cuisine.

In addition, visit the Eyeliner Mines which is an ancient eye cosmetic used mostly by women to make eyes look more seductive and attractive. Next, visit the Khamlia village, a small village located at the edge of the dunes and well-known for its lively Gnawa rhythms and melodies, most of its inhabitants are black people and their origins are from Sub-saharan countries such as Sudan, Mali, and Niger.

Afterward, visit and stroll in Hassi labied palm grove to experience the unique beauty of the palm groves and the broader Sahara region.

Finally, we head to the hotel/riad in Merzouga.

3rd day: Merzouga - Rissani - Todra Gorges - Boumalne Dades

After breakfast, we leave the desert and drive toward Boumalne Dades. First, a stop will be made to visit Rissani, an important cultural and economic center in the area known as the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling royal family of Morocco, also its traditional market is particularly lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, bringing people from nearby villages to buy and sell goods, as well as it offers a wide range of products, including spices, textiles, pottery, and traditional crafts.

Later, pass through Erfoud, Jorf, Touroug, Tinjdad, and Tenghir. After some free time for lunch, we continue to Todra Gorges with its big wall canyons offering breathtaking views of the rugged terrain, the contrast between the narrow canyon walls and the open sky is fabulous, this wonderful spot is well-known for rock climbing and hiking.

4th Day: Dades Valley - Valley of Roses - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech

After breakfast, we start the last day of the Errachidia desert tour to Marrakech. To begin, The first stop will be in towering rock formations and cliffs known as Monkey Fingers.

Next, pass through Kalaat M’gouna, here is renowned for its extensive rose gardens, it hosts an annual Rose Festival usually on the first week of May, bringing hundreds of visitors from all around the world. Later, pass through Idelsane, Skoura palm trees, and Ouarzazate to visit the Atlas Studios (optional) and the Taourirt Kasbah. 

Furthermore, we continue to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a mud village that has been fortified since the 11th century, several movies were shot in this ancient Kasbah such as Gladiator, Obelix, A Life On Our Planet, Alexander, The Living Daylights…etc, in addition to TV series like Game of Thrones and the Brazilian TV series O Clone and The Amazing Race Australia 6.

After a free time for lunch in the Kasbah, we continue to the red city Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi N Tichka pass offering fabulous landscapes of the mountains with a stop in a panoramic view to enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountains.
