Day Trip Marrakech to Essaouira

The day trip from Marrakech to Essaouira starts in the morning with a pick-up from your riad/hotel and depart to the romantic city of Essaouira, its history dates back to the 7th century when the Phoenicians founded an enclave, in the 15th century the Portuguese settled in this enclave founding the city of Mogador as a strategic point of military control,  The streets of the city center are rectilinear as in a European city and all the towers, walls, and gates are built with the styles of any European city of the XVIII century which produces in the visitor a strange sensation of not knowing where he is, whether in Europe or Morocco.

First, Explore Medina of Essaouira which is a historic district with narrow winding streets, blue-and-white buildings, and bustling markets, declared a World Heritage by Unesco.

Second,  visit Port of Essaouira to see the local fishermen at work with seafood stalls as well as the lively atmosphere of Moulay Hassan Square with Guitar players and musicians.

Third, Discover Essaouira Citadel (Scala du Port), which is, a fortress located at the entrance of the port.

Fourth, Relax on the sandy beach, a popular spot for wind and kite surfing, in addition to riding a camel or horse ride along the shore.

Fifth, explore the vibrant arts scene in Essaouira like  local galleries showcasing paintings, and woodwork

If visiting in June, it’s advisable to attend the Gnaoua World Music Festival, which is a major cultural event featuring music from various genres and attracting artists from around all over the world.
